Tournament History
Since 1954, high school basketball squads have converged on Southwest Missouri to face off in the Neosho Holiday Classic. For 2011, the 57th edition of the tournament will feature some of the top teams in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, and will prove to be the region's premier showcase for competitive high school basketball. Over the years, the tournament has provided thrilling matchups, amazing upsets, nationally ranked teams, Division I college players and NBA talent. Branco, tournament sponsor since 1998, is proud to bring another year of excellent high school basketball to Neosho, MO.
The tournament has survived for many decades due to the dedication of the tournament staff, unwavering community support, and the quality of play provided by talented local, regional and national teams. The high caliber of play seen at the Neosho Holiday Classic never ceases to amaze. Many scouts find their way to Neosho to observe and evaluate that talent.
Teams that have recently journeyed to Neosho for the Holiday Classic are: Central Park Christian out of Birmingham; South Atlanta; Cypress Christian out of Houston; Kansas City Ruskin; Morrilton, AR; San Diego High; Marietta, GA; Thunderbird out of Phoenix, AZ; and many others. We've had a plethora of Division I talent grace our tournament. Some of the recent big names include: Van Green (Columbia University), Jamelle Horn (University of Arizona), Shekinna Stricklen (University of Tennessee), Biko Paris (Boston College), Jeremy Tyler (Golden State Warriors), Hasheem Thabeet (Houston Rockets), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman.
